Mary Ellen Mark

The lives of women

Add to my calendar

Mary Ellen Mark (Philadelphia, 1940 - New York, 2015) was probably one of the most unique photographers of the 20th century.

As part of this family of artists that measure themselves against the reality of the world, she set out to explore the fringes of society and capture the expressions of the prostitutes, drug addicts and outcasts she found there.

The exhibition presents images selected by Mary Ellen Mark at the start of the 2000s, when she undertook to put her archives in order. They bear witness to her commitment to women for whom she became the spokesperson, as evidenced by their recurrent presence across her entire body of work.
